Apps useful for parent teachers

Tshepo Rabotapi. I think the apps that could help parents who happen to be teachers are the type of apps that could assist in discovery learning, something that the parent can leave with the child and attend to other matters and the parent would monitor progress and after the task is done .i can think of a few

Google street view for teaching of directions, discovery of the world around us.

Demo accounts in platforms like easy equities to teach basics of investing in JSE and how different politics affect the economy and world we live in.

Simulation software of real-world scenarios, like flying planes, etc, computers today are powerful enough to make them real life.

Many of today's tools allow the parent to zone into the interest of the child and  teach real-life skills for that interest

Mpesa; Google apps on Mobile:

Parents
Mpesa: is a mobile money app that enables one to send and receive money as well as make payments for various things such as shopping, paying for fuel and making purchases. Example: my daughter turned 18 and got an ID card this allows her to get an Mpesa account. I then taught her how Mpesa work by sending her some money, giving her some money to deposit in Mpesa and how to save money using Mshwari which is an off shoot of mpesa.
Mr D foods & Uber eats : these are apps that enable you to order food and have it delivered at your address
Google maps: help parents find information of locations of places and the distance to those places
use the App store on the phone to download exercise workouts that enable the family to exercise despite constrained environments
Basic digital literacy e.g how to send voice notes .
Takealot is an online shopping app where you create an account by entering your email address.. Once you have logged into the account you scroll through suggestions on what is available , check the price and click on the shopping cart icon and follow instruction to receive delivery options for your chosen product.

Youtube, Pinterest, Takealot, Pick'n'Pay and Food Lover's Market

I personally go to YouTube for everything. It is useful for recipe idea, DIY projects at home, workout videos and ideas for activities to keep the kiddos busy (not just watching videos). Pinterest is similar, it is just more visual preference based. If you like the picture you can access the site for further ideas. Takealot is super fast with delivering goods needed at this time. You would be limited to essential goods, but you can get things that you would possibly not get at your grocery store. Then Pick'n'Pay app is useful for ordering groceries and Food Lover's app is great for fresh fruits and veg to be delivered.

MS Teams

I am finding Teams useful, because it allows for conversations at different levels - particularly useful is being able to create groups and do voice and video calls in those channels, without needing any further setup.

This is useful for teachers, because it allows for ways to communicate privately, in groups or with the full class.

There has been excessive sending of emails; this morning when I logged in there were 48 new emails since I logged off 24 hours before. Teams allows a place for interactions with teachers where chains are not lost and emails are not needed. So it's useful for PLCs and teacher/class teams.

If the parents want to know what work the kids are doing, they email me, also swamping me with emails. I am able to respond and say please ask your child to show you what I said in the announcement channel in Teams.

It also has a great assignment function for sharing and marking assignments.

Overall I'm finding it to be a useful tool.
